Georgetown University’s Department of Mathematics & Statistics promotes research in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics. Our faculty prides itself on its innovative instruction and curriculum, resulting in a close working relationship between students and faculty.
We offer two undergraduate majors, a Bachelor of Arts (AB) and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mathematics. Additionally, we offer minors in both Mathematics and Statistics. We do accept appropriate Advanced Placement credit.
For questions about our undergraduate program including approval of courses should be addressed to Professor Michael Raney, Director of Undergraduate Studies.
We offer two Graduate programs:
- The Master of Science (MS) in Mathematics & Statistics program is now in its 15th year and has reached a stable size of around 90 students. As part of the MS program, undergraduates can apply for the Accelerated Masters Program in which they can obtain a MS degree with one additional year of school.
- The PhD Program in Applied Mathematics prepares students for careers in academia, industry, or government.
For questions about the Graduate programs, contact Professor Ali Arab, Director of Graduate Studies.
For students who are having difficulty with their lower level mathematics courses, we offer free tutoring, 6:00-9:00 PM, Sunday through Thursday, at our Math Assistance Center (MAC).
