Farshid Abadizaman

Farshid is a Ph.D. candidate in Applied Mathematics, specializing in Bayesian learning for high-dimensional biological data. His research develops scalable and interpretable statistical models to uncover latent structures in -omics datasets, using stochastic search variable selection, sparse graphical modeling techniques, mixture models, and Markov chain Monte Carlo methods. His work supports applications in biomarker discovery, therapeutic target identification, and precision medicine. Outside of research, Farshid enjoys spending time outdoors—especially fishing and crabbing in the upper Chesapeake Bay.

Josh Berman

Josh Berman graduated from Georgetown University with a B.S. in Mathematics. His research interests include Partial Differential Equations, Numerical Analysis and their relation to physics.

Xilin Chen

Xilin Chen graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with a B.S. in Mathematics, where he completed a project in applied topological data analysis. He later earned an M.S. degree in Mathematics and Statistics from Georgetown University. His research interests span partial differential equations (PDEs), analysis, and related fields. He also enjoys exploring topics in quantum mechanics and quantum computing. Outside of academics, he enjoys weight lifting, playing basketball, and competing in Valorant.

Urshila Choubal

Urshila Choubal obtained her B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Emory University in May 2022, along with a minor in Computer Science. Her senior year thesis focused on graph theory to analyze recommendation systems used in social media applications. She is particularly interested in understanding mathematics from an interdisciplinary perspective. Urshila’s research interests include numerical analysis, optimization, graph theory, and differential equations. Besides mathematics, she enjoys dancing, debating, and watching documentaries.

Ojonugwa David

Ojonugwa David

Ojonugwa David obtained his B.S. in Mathematics in 2021 from Federal University Lokoja, Nigeria with a first class honor. His undergraduate research was focused on the effects of Stokes drag force on the equilibrium points of Restricted three-body problem. He also attended the University of L’Aquila in Italy from 2021 to 2023 where he obtained an M1 in mathematical engineering. In the Summer of 2023, he started a PhD in Mathematics at West Virginia University but transferred to continue studying in the Applied Mathematics program at Georgetown University. His research interests focus on Dynamical System, modelling, control system and optimization.

Ekaterina Gribok

Ekaterina graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and a B.S. in Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics. She is interested in doing research in the fields of probability theory and linear algebra, particularly for modeling biological processes.

Jinkun Han

Jinkun graduated with a B.A. in Mathematics and a minor in German from Oberlin College. She then joined the Berlin Mathematical School as a Phase I student while completing an M.Sc. in Mathematics at the Technical University of Berlin. As part of her bachelor’s thesis, she worked on 3D tetrahedron packing, a topic in discrete geometry. For her master’s thesis, she studied the invariant 3-form of the 3D QRT map, a problem in discrete integrable systems. Her current research interests include dynamical systems, partial differential equations, and financial mathematics. In life, Jinkun enjoys music and films.

Zeiad Hassoun

Zeiad Hassoun

Zeiad obtained a Bachelors of Mathematics (with highest distinction) from the University of Windsor, followed by a B.S. in Computer Science in 2021. He has served as an instructor in the Data Analytics department at St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario for 2 years. His research interests lie in the analysis of partial differential equations, with a focus on Maxwell’s equations, spectral theory, and operator semigroups. Current work includes well‑posedness and energy decay for electromagnetic systems with impedance boundary conditions, through the use of compactness, variational methods and spectral analysis arguements to study long‑time behavior in open electromagnetic cavities.

Jianlei Huang graduated from Fudan University with a Bachelor of Engineering degree, followed by a Master of Science in Mathematics and Statistics degree from Georgetown University. His research interest includes Partial Differential Equations, Harmonic Analysis and related areas.

Henry Jervis

Henry Jervis graduated from Georgetown University in 2024 with a B.S. in Mathematics and Chemistry. As an undergraduate, his research in mathematics focused on graph theory, particularly the factorization of bipartite toroidal grid graphs, while his chemistry research centered on mathematical, computational chemistry. Henry’s current research interests include partial differential equations, abstract algebra, representation theory, and graph theory, along with their relation to mathematical physics and quantum computing. Outside of mathematics, Henry enjoys running Spartan Races, video editing, sailing, and is an avid NHL hockey fan.

Xin Li

Xin Li is a graduate of Towson University where she received a B.S. degree in Actuarial Science and Risk Management. She also holds a M.S. degree in Statistics from Georgetown University. Her previous and current research has included projects in Sampling, Modeling, and Data Mining.

Lizzy Rottenberk

Lizzy Rottenberk received her B.A. in Mathematics and English (poetry) from Kalamazoo College in 2024, where her senior research project explored the integration of mathematical theorems within the structure and context of poetry. She also completed her M.A. in Mathematics at East Carolina University, where her thesis analyzed the zeros of moments of characteristic polynomials of random matrices and their connection to moment patterns of the Riemann zeta function. Lizzy’s research interests include analytic number theory, complex analysis, and mathematical modeling. Outside of mathematics, she enjoys participating in her book club, writing poetry, and playing sports.

Lois Ruiz graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station with her B.S. in Applied Mathematics along with a minor in statistics. In her senior year, she was an Undergraduate research assistant for Dr. Patricia Alonso Ruiz, researching the Sierpinski gasket and its spectral appearance. Her research interests are in number theory, set theory, probability theory, and abstract algebra.
