AP credit is awarded for specific mathematics and science courses and may satisfy all or part of the general education requirement. Therefore, prospective students are encouraged to qualify for advanced placement by taking the Advanced Placement Examination. Thus, scoring details are as follows:
|AP Exam||AP Score||Credits Awarded||Course Equivalency||Gen. Ed. Requirements Met||Net Course|
|MATH: Calculus AB||4 or 5||4||Math 035||1/2 Math/Science||Math 036, Math 040 or any Bio/Chem/Physics course to fill Math/Science req.|
|MATH: Calculus BC||4 or 5||8||Math 035, 036||Full Math/Science||MATH 137|
|MATH: Statistics||4||3||Math 040||1/2 Math/Science||MATH 035 or any Bio/Chem/Physics course to fill Math/Science req.|
Students who have not received credit or advanced placement by means of these examinations, but believe their preparation in high school is substantially equivalent to MATH-035/036, may petition the Department Chair for advanced placement. In such cases, the Department will administer an examination to determine if such placement is warranted. This examination will take place during the registration period at the beginning of the fall term.
Calculus I (MATH-035) may be waived following departmental placement test for which no credit will be received.
Calculus II (MATH-036) may be waived following departmental placement test for which no credit will be received and must be replaced with upper-level course.
Further information may be obtained through the department or the Georgetown College, Office of the Dean.
